Ed Whitacre is the former chairman and CEO of both General Motors and AT&T. He began his career in 1963 out of Texas Tech and rose to become the CEO of AT&T. He served in that capacity for seventeen years, until his retirement in 2007. Two years later, the White House appointed him chairman of GM, and he became CEO later that year. He and his wife, Linda, have two daughters, four grandchildren, and one really great dog, Lucille.
